Rant Paxlovid costs $1400???

That’s WITH insurance??? WTF??? Isn’t this blatant price gouging? Apparently it’s free for Medicare/Medicaid and uninsured patients—but $1400 for the rest of us (because pharmacies aren’t reimbursed by insurance carriers??)

Unfortunately, this is the new trend for new medicines. I take one that costs $8000/year. The insurance pays the max it will allow, then I use a copay card to pay the rest. It forces each insurance company to pay the max rather than negotiate (and eliminates the benefit of customers shopping around for better prices). This applies to many medications that came out in the last few years.

Last I heard, it is Pfizer that is covering the cost for Medicare, Medicaid, and the uninsured (not the US Government). Many insurances cover it too. If yours doesn't cover it, then Pfizer will probably drop the price of your copay to $140 here: https://www.paxlovid.com/enroll-in-co-pay-program
Yeah Humira works the same way for me.

Bills out for 130,000/yr. Insurance has some rebate program or another and Abbievie also has some copay assistance program. I don't end up with any of of pocket costs thankfully. before I would get a $1500 copay at beginning of the year and then $5 after that on refills
