Pausing SETI Driver/setiathome-3.03?

I was wondering if it's possible to pause SETI for a little bit w/o completely exiting the program all together and having to start it again when ready. I have found that it takes FOREVER to open .pdf files (or other processor intensive programs) even when I'm running SETI on the "Low" priority setting on my dualie system. A pause button would be a nice addition to a future driver if it's not available already. Thanks for your help in advance...

If your having a dually you are probably running something like SetiDriver..
If so, you can set the "Maximum Processes" to 0 when doing something else. When ready
you can set it back to 2 again and the happy crunchin begins were it left of..

Your Acrobat files take a long time to open with SETI running? That's odd. I don't have any trouble with them. Can you point me to a link that has a .pdf file that you experience a slowdown on? I'd like to try it with SETI running and stopped and see if I notice a difference.

Oh, if you're running Win NT/2000/XP and running SETI as a service you can stop/start the service from a command line. It's a simple command - "net stop servicename" to stop it and "net start servicename" to start it. I suppose you could even create a batch file to eliminate the need to type everything (q.bat to stop and s.bat to start). I just tried it with my work system and it worked fine. I believe the flex installer has an option to install SetiDriver (I don't use it as I use SetiQ here at work). If you're running NT/2000/XP you should be able to use those quick batch files to kill and restart SETI with just a mouse click on the shortcuts.

I have the same problem w/ any .pdf file I try to open, however here is an example of a .pdf file that I was trying to open last night. I can't get any of them to load at all (well, not within a decent amount of time anyway) on the web. What I have to do is right click on the link to 'em and save the target as a file on my computer and then open 'em from there. Even as a file on my computer they take an extremely long time to load up. Most of the time they cause my entire system to freeze momentarily several times during the process of opening Acrobat to read them. Eventually they open, but it's a pain in the @$$ and I'm getting sick of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, guys!

That pdf comes right up for me on my single proc XP 1800. It is on a Soyo K7V Dragon Plus with 512MB DDR PC2100. I will try it on my dualie and let you know if there is any difference.

Just opened it on my dualie MP 1.2 and it had no problem either. Tyan Tiger MP with 512MB ECC DDR PC2100.

I don't know what to tell you other than there is something else different about your system that is allowing interference. Both of my systems are running Win 2k Pro by the way.

SetiHide has that feature... I just switched over from SetiDriver and I like it SetiHide also enables me to specify when to send/receive wu's... nice feature for my poor dial-up butt

That pdf file loaded upin a few seconds on my rig ,AthXP,Win98SE,56k dialup ,no background virus scanners

Opened up in a few seconds on a my 1.6A@2.275Ghz. Try reinstalling Acrobat and see if that helps.
