Pause in MSI Pro2-A POST / boot

I am experiencing a wierd pause on bootup with my system. I get the memory count, and the drive discovery, and then it sits there for 30 seconds or so with the "press DEL to ....", looking like it's doing nothing. 30 seconds later, it swaps screens to my Buslogic BIOS page (where it does drive discovery), and then I get the summary page showing the devices. Is anyone else experiencing this pause? Any clues as to what is causing it?? I'm pretty sure it's not normal, as I am upgrading from a FIC VA-503+ / K6-3+/450, and I didn't have the pauses there.

System:
--------------------------------------------------
MSI Pro2-A / German 2.01 BIOS
T-Bird 1GHz @ 1GHz / Alpha PAL-6035 (sucking)
256 MB PC-133 set on SPD in BIOS
VisionTek GeForce 256
SCSI : Buslogic BT-958 / 3HD / CDrom / MiniCart
IDE : Iomega 12X10X32X / LS-120
1.44" floppy
3COM 3C905TX
Creative SB 128-PCI

If you use a PCI controller card and all your drives are hooked to the card you need to set all the motherboard BIOS drive settings to none, that way the BIOS will not try to find drives connected to the onboard IDE channels.
