You're assuming that all the accusations are truthful. I have no idea what the actual truth is here. But lets be real, she got into this public shit storm for admitting to using the "n word".

You do know that her admission to using the N-word was related to the lawsuit leveled against her, right?

I'd say the accusations are fairly truthful since she wasted no time excusing bubba's behavior in the workplace. You should read the deposition again. Not only did she confirm that racist jokes were being told at work but she also confirmed that porn was being shown in the workplace by her brother...which is sexual harassment.

All things which were filed in the formal complaint against her.

The admission of her using the "n word" is what got her in public hot water. Irrelevant where she said it.

No it isn't. She is in public hot water for being an ignorant wise and beautiful woman when it comes to socially acceptable behavior.

ugh. she said it 20 something years ago in conversation with her husband. she didn't call a blacker person it to there face. i really don't give a shit.

I do think the reaction of business and such is overblown. again she said the word 20 fucking years ago.

i doubt very few who are her age have not dome something as minor in there past. The hatred being shown is not in proportion to the utterance of the word 20 years ago.

Why are so many people so ignorant regarding what she has done and said recently? Even more troubling, why do these ignorant people feel the need to comment on an issue they know nothing about?

I agree the reaction to this has been disproportionate, but I can only assume the reason she admitted to using it on a few occasions 20 years ago is that there are scads of people who would testify that she used the word habitually, over the course of many years. If you read more about her testimony (e.g., wanting to host a plantation-themed wedding with all black, uniformed staff), I think it's fair to say her racial issues go beyond using one word, once, 20 years ago.

Personally I think she has been incredibly fortunate to have become rich and famous, and her food is a particularly awful example of the sort of lifestyle choices that have made us so unhealthy as a country over the last couple of decades, so I'm fine with her being forced out of the mainstream based on something she did, after all, say.

Okay, ignore the full disposition on what kind of workplace she was providing for her workers. Say everyone is over-reacting and that she doesnt deserve it....

The thing is, I'm comfortably certain she is in fact a racist, and the use of the N word is just one example of that - it's not as though people are falsely branding her a racist based on nothing. I don't hate her either but I am not going to lose any sleep about her being publicly shamed for her own bad decisions. It seems abundantly clear that she and her brother are good examples of the most negative stereotypes about southern white racism.

I don't think you understood my post, because I can't even begin to fathom the reason for your hate filled response...though ironically you pretty much made my point for me.

Instead of congratulating yourself, maybe you should make yourself clear? As it stands, you're still a dumb fuck.

That may not be good evidence..but the fact that she was physically present while Bubba verbally abused her black staff with racial slurs and jokes shows that she probably..most likely racist. She never once made a peep about his behavior. She allowed it to continue on multiple occasions. It was done in front of an Organization they were working with that had to speak up about it because she would not. Still, she allowed it to continue....until one of her employees (ironically, not black) reported her and her family for creating a hostile work environment.
IF those allegations are true, then she deserves whatever she gets. IFF.

Either way I have no problem with the corporations dropping her. It's supposed to be a mutually advantageous relationship, but if she can be tarred with the racist brush then it's a disadvantageous relationship to the corporation. This is why they insist on morals clauses and it's why smart talent behave themselves even if they are assholes.

I'd agree that the plantation-themed wedding is a monumentally stupid idea that shows a total lack of any sensitivity or couth.

I tend to think she is not a racist because in the video where she is shown making "racist jokes", she is not denigrating the young black man she describes as her son. Although a suspicious person would wonder if that video, which was made before the accusations came out, was made after she knew the accusations were going to come out. (Although if so, it was an incredibly stupid attempt to provide cover.)

she doesn't need quick cash does she?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/01/paula-deen-porn-offer_n_3529941.html

TMZ reports that a porn company that features older women called PureMature.com sent a letter to Deen offering her a six-figure deal to endorse the site.

"Full figured or thin, arthritic or diabetic -- you embody our perfect spokesperson," the company wrote to Deen, adding that she's a "MILF," and they are willing to offer her "6 figures for very little work," since there is no nudity required.

It seems our society and culture are prone to react in an overblown manner, this affects her brand.

It also happened to Tiger and Kobe to a degree.

I'm sorry but I give a partial pass to people of a certain age that grew up in the south. It's no less ignorant, but living in a racist society is bound to impact people.

I never watched her or other food programs, what's the point of watching people prepare food, when most Americans heat up prepackaged and processed junk.

Less watching people prepare food and more actual preparing of food.

I just find it hilarious that every single person on this planet has made a racist comment at *some* point in their life yet they get on their high horse to rail against this woman.

That accent makes people sound so ignorant/backwards.
Why is this surprising?

My, my. That's not a very egalitarian viewpoint.

Most of the "workers" are going to have accents like that. You sound almost elitist, comrade. Hmm.

I think she is, and DVC hit the nail right on the head. You don't admit to using the "n-word" on a single occasion unless you know that there are people who can verify you using it multiple times in the past. She also covered herself by admitting that she "may" have used it on other occasions. That's how you minimize it while immunizing yourself from the charge of lying about it.

Combine that with her tolerance of her brother's behavior and the plantation themed wedding, and it's reasonably clear. There comes a point where it isn't "playing the race card" to call someone a racist, and this is one of those times.

It is not surprising YOU would think this, and take such a self centered any myopic point of view. What you are really saying, is "I think all people in the south are stupid, so their accent and dialect is stupid."

Do you think Ebonics or pidgin makes people "sound so ignorant/backwards"? Do you think the black southern accent makes them sound "ignorant/backwards" as well? If not, why?

Further, I am absolutely certain there are plenty of people in the UK who think your accent and grammar make you sound as ignorant/backwards as you suggest she sounds, or rather the southern accent and dialect.

Do you know why different regions have different accents and dialects? Are you aware of the amalgamation of languages, dialects, and cultures that leads to this difference?

Also, I would not be surprised if she "enhances" her southern accent and dialect for her show and overall brand, and when in proper company, for lack of a better word, uses a less pronounced accent and dialect. You know, like Obama has done vis-à-vis speeches too the NAACP and general audiences. Again, do you have a problem with that? I seem to recall a lengthy thread discussing that issue awhile back.

True, and I have always assumed his most prized possession his is collection of USSR era PRAVDA editions, you know, back when they really told you the truth. D:
