I'd say the accusations are fairly truthful since she wasted no time excusing bubba's behavior in the workplace. You should read the deposition again. Not only did she confirm that racist jokes were being told at work but she also confirmed that porn was being shown in the workplace by her brother...which is sexual harassment.


All things which were filed in the formal complaint against her.

I agree the reaction to this has been disproportionate, but I can only assume the reason she admitted to using it on a few occasions 20 years ago is that there are scads of people who would testify that she used the word habitually, over the course of many years. If you read more about her testimony (e.g., wanting to host a plantation-themed wedding with all black, uniformed staff), I think it's fair to say her racial issues go beyond using one word, once, 20 years ago.

Personally I think she has been incredibly fortunate to have become rich and famous, and her food is a particularly awful example of the sort of lifestyle choices that have made us so unhealthy as a country over the last couple of decades, so I'm fine with her being forced out of the mainstream based on something she did, after all, say.

The thing is, I'm comfortably certain she is in fact a racist, and the use of the N word is just one example of that - it's not as though people are falsely branding her a racist based on nothing. I don't hate her either but I am not going to lose any sleep about her being publicly shamed for her own bad decisions. It seems abundantly clear that she and her brother are good examples of the most negative stereotypes about southern white racism.

That may not be good evidence..but the fact that she was physically present while Bubba verbally abused her black staff with racial slurs and jokes shows that she probably..most likely racist. She never once made a peep about his behavior. She allowed it to continue on multiple occasions. It was done in front of an Organization they were working with that had to speak up about it because she would not. Still, she allowed it to continue....until one of her employees (ironically, not black) reported her and her family for creating a hostile work environment.

I think she is, and DVC hit the nail right on the head. You don't admit to using the "n-word" on a single occasion unless you know that there are people who can verify you using it multiple times in the past. She also covered herself by admitting that she "may" have used it on other occasions. That's how you minimize it while immunizing yourself from the charge of lying about it.

Combine that with her tolerance of her brother's behavior and the plantation themed wedding, and it's reasonably clear. There comes a point where it isn't "playing the race card" to call someone a racist, and this is one of those times.

Also, I would not be surprised if she "enhances" her southern accent and dialect for her show and overall brand, and when in proper company, for lack of a better word, uses a less pronounced accent and dialect.
