First, I had no idea that Paul was Jewish. That was a surprise.

“Ace and particularly Peter felt powerless and impotent when faced with the tireless focus, drive and ambition of me and Gene,” Stanley writes, according to The Post. “As a result, the two of them tried to sabotage the band — which, as they saw it, was unfairly manipulated by [us] money-grubbing Jews.”

He also claims that Frehley had a collection of Nazi memorabilia and that Criss used to make racist jokes about waiters at Chinese restaurants.

:hmm:

 I never liked their music or their stupid look. KISS sucks balls.

They were really the Nickleback of their time. Friendly enough for the masses, but still "rock" enough for those scared off by Ozzy.

I will say, despite being kinda about KISS, I really liked the movie 'Detroit Rock City'.

There's been a rift between the bandmates for years. That's why KISS has a 50% new lineup. No new news here.

I've never cared for Kiss at all, but I thought the rift was over the fact that Gene and Paul wanted to strip mine the brand for every penny they could squeeze out of it and the other two wanted to be serious artists.

Gene Simmons has a net worth of about $300MM, I think Paul Stanley is around $125MM.

Serious artists... with a face painted like cat and massive explosions. Yeah. Seems like Paul and Gene were the only ones who understood the big part of their success and milked it. Nobody wants to join the "generic rock band #1256" fan club.

They understood marketing and giving back to their fans. Kiss is probably one of the most fan-centric bands out there.

They started the whole meet and greet ticket thing. It's expensive as hell, but gives people the chance to actually sit with the band, talk, eat, get things signed, etc.

I am going to see the Kiss/Def Leppard show in S. Florida in a couple months.

I don't actually like Kiss enough to have any of their music but I don't change the station when one of their songs comes on the radio.

There has always been a preference for style over substance in the music business and it's only gotten worse over the years. Bowie had the glam thing but he was also a serious musician and songwriter. Groups like Kiss could care less about the music and for them, Gene and Paul at least, it was all about the show.

The advent of file sharing has changed the music business by further de-emphasising the music side and increasing the importance of the show because that's pretty much the only place most make money these days given that all albums are ripped and traded the moment they're released.

Back in the good old days bands were known by the name of the band but today the musicians are pretty well nameless, faceless guns for hire and as far as the audience is concerned, although there maybe 10 people on stage playing various instruments the only person most of the people know by name is the singer. How many people know the names of any of Taylor Swifts backing musicians?

There's little chance things will improve going forward ... sad isn't it...

I once bought a Kiss album and as I later told my brother after I gave it to him for Christmas I was tempted to find a surrogate to buy the thing for me to give to him.

That is how it has always been. Pretty much any band whose name was the frontman, they were the ones people cared about. Jimi Hendrix? Even Ozzy. You are naming someone billed as a single artist and ignoring bands billed as bands. Who were the musicians that played with Bowie? Michael Jackson? Prince? The iconic, singular billed artists always overshadowed their stage musicians.

I'm sure plenty of people know who are in the bands of today, especially outside of the pop genre. Plenty of rock, jazz, metal, etc have well known musicians that aren't the frontmen.

I would have thought big rich rockstars would have thicker skin

Exactly. He has enough money... rings totally hollow to me.

Here's my shopping list, things for Paul and Gene to get: a) a life b) a super-durable thick skin. Sticks and stones... blah blah blah... Life isn't perfect, then you die.

And then have yourself buried in a genuine Kiss Coffin.

I thought it was because the other two were self destructing on drugs and alcohol.
