So here I am, listening to Paul Simon's 1991 Central Park Concert and I come to realize that I'm one of the few people my age that really like his stuff. I'm 19, but I've been listening to his stuff since I was 10. Most people that I've come across that enjoy him are over 30, if not much more older.

But anyhow, it amazes me how brilliant are his songs, both lyric and melody-wise. It never becomes old or outdaded.

So, are there any other Simon fans among the AT community (which is made up of primarily young people)?
 
Simon and Garfunkel rock. 🙂

They're one of my all time favorite bands.
 
I've never listened to Paul Simon, but I like classic artists and songs. Recommend me some songs and I'll tell you in a few minutes whether or not I like him.
 
My sister got me into it. When she drives, she puts a Simon cd in all the time. Now I've grown up to appreciate his talent and musical ability. Though I am mostly a "rocker" by trade, I would say P Simon was very influential in my musical upbringing.
 
The woman that married us last October use to be Paul Simon's personal photographer. How cool would that be?

I'm 26 and a Paul Simon fan. You don't get much better than Kodachrome.
 
I think it's positively outstanding that you, at 19 enjoy this music. 🙂

Much like you, when I was a teenager, I really got into music that was before my time. Lots of real R&B like The Chilites, The Platters, Smokey Robinson &The Miracles, etc.

I also got into Classic Rock. The Beatles, Jethro Tell, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.

I believe a large influence came from the fact that most of the people I hung out with were either more than or almost twice my age. It just happened that way from where I lived. I was 16 hanging out with guys and gals in their mid-to-late 30's.

You are more intelligent and more of an asset to society b/c of your broad musical interests. Good on you. 🙂

I recomend anything from the Concert In Central Park 1991 album ... Graceland, The Boxer and Sound of Silence are true highlights.

EDIT: It's actually 1991, not 1992.

Me, but I'm a post-30 geezer. I discovered his music hearing my hippie parents playing their viynl LPs of Simon & Garfunkel and solo Simon. Great timeless stuff.

BTW if you like "Scarborough Fair" then check out Fairport Convention's Liege and Lief CD sometime, it's more authentic English folk (played with some electric instruments) -- "Farewell Farewell," "Tam Lin" and "Crazy Man Michael" are all classics.

Yes. Not until recently though. I always like Mrs Robinson etc... but after seeing that show on TV that my mom was watching, I obtained some music like "50 ways to lose your lover" and "Under Graceland". Awesome stuff.

Edit: I'm 18.

Edit again: I'm amazed at people my age who don't know anything about old music, don't listen to it, and despise it. I guess their small minds can't comprehend music that actually has meaning.

Huge fan! First song I ever learned on guitar was Scarborough Faire (and yes it is an olde english folk song). Paul learned his guitar arrangement for it whilst in the UK (before hitting it big back in the states) from a legendary UK folksinger named Martin Carthy. As the story goes, after learning the song from Carthy Paul went out and copyrighted it. He later released it on the "Parsley Sage Rosemary & Thyme" LP (great album, BTW) without giving any credit to Carthy.

Carthy sued and won recently, and all future pressings should have his name listed 🙂

Sounds like sort of a sh!tty thing for Paul to do. Who knows what was going through his head... but nothing changes the fact that he is a legendary guitarist and songwriter. He and Art played a huge role in the popularity of folk music in the late 60s... and then as a solo artist Simon was huge in the singer/songwriter movement.

He has had a tremendous influence on popular artists of today. Extremely, extremely talented guy.
