Did a couple searches and didn't find this, seems like a pretty hot deal to me. Got an email from Newegg with some promo codes, including an additional $10 off this RAM.

$54.99, free shipping
- $10 promo code EMCLNNP26
- $25 rebate
= $19.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820220293

The promo code expires on 3/12, but the rebate is only through 3/2, so there's only a day left to jump on it. EDIT: they added a new rebate form that is good 3/3 - 3/31.

Specs on the RAM are as follows:

Tech Spec
Capacity 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Speed DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Cas Latency 4
Timing 4-4-4-12
Voltage 2.2V
Heat Spreader Yes

I can't claim to know much about RAM, but this looks pretty sweet to me. Anyone knowledgeable in RAM care to chime in?

The voltage seems high

I've had bad experiences with sticks that require 2.2 voltage. They are mostly ok, but a lot of mother boards have bizarre issues with that and cause you to have to reset the cmos from time to time.

Yea which more than likely means it's low quality RAM to have to get such basic DDR2 800 on it.

4-4-4-12 at ddr-800 generally requires 2.2v at stock. most ram will handle under that with the same timings, but manufacturers recommend that at stock anyway.

it's the same way with crucial ballistix. 2.2v req.

if you're looking for ram for tweaking and OCing, then this is the right kind of stuff. if you're looking for generic ram, then look for generic ram. this stuff will probably do jedec standard no problem at 1.8v, if that's what you want. it's also certed to do 4-4-4-12 at 2.2v. if it cant make that cert, RMA it.

The timings are good for 2GB sticks, but yes the voltage is high, which is why I would skip it.

Reviews say while it doesn't overclock as well as ocz reapers and gskill black pi's...very solid at stock and mild overclock.

Well, it seems most of the RAM rated for DDR2-800 and requiring 2.2V is the cheaper variants of RAM.....take the G.Skill HK versions of their DDR2-800 RAM.....at its rated speed it requires no more than 1.8-1.9V, per the manufacturer. G.Skill PI is rated at speed at 1.8-1.9V, also.

Same goes for Mushkin......Redline DDR2-1000 will give DDR2-800 speeds, per the SPD settings, at 1.8V. Cheaper variants of Mushkin typically require only 2.0V per Mushkin for DDR2-800 speeds.

Corsair has most of its RAM at DDR2-800 speeds at 2.0V.

Crucial Ballistix, both the "regular" gold heatsinked version and the Tracers, are rated at DDR2-800 speeds at 2.0V.

The RAM that is, as far as I can see, spec'd for 2.2V is lower priced, cheaper RAM.......and interestingly, most of it is Patriot.....at least at Newegg and only looking at 2 x 2GB strip sets.

All DDR2 name brand RAM you buy these days should post at 1.8V. If you have specific questions about this Patriot RAM, check out their website and download the specifications document.

To get the rated speeds, the RAM needs 2.2V (4-4-4-12 btw, is extremely fast for 2GB sticks in this price range, even at DDR2-800)

This is a hot deal.

That's "normal" for CAS 4 at 800MHz.

My first RAM went for $90/MB. They were 30 pin SIMMs for my 386DX-25.

Screw it. I'm in.

And just that fast I forgot to use a click through. Then I canceled to do that. Then I can't use the code again. ARGGGG. Maybe they'll see what I did and agree to deduct it when I contact them tomorrow.

ARGGGG again. Now I can use the promo code again, but they've alreeady charged my order so I can't cancel and do it again. I hate their ordering system.

I noticed that they updated the rebate form to a new one, that is good from 3/3 to 3/31. So this is still available.

Ah, memories. My first RAM upgrade was a 16KB card for my Apple II Plus. Got it up to 64KB. Don't remember the cost but I think it was several hundred dollars. Also upgraded it with a CP/M card so I could write programs using 8080 code. Damn, makes me realize I'm a really old fart... :D

I would get in on this deal but I already have too much DDR2 RAM. I'm working on DDR3 now. :Q
