Patriot PSD28G800SK -- What happened to it?

Patriot announced some bargain 8GB DDR2 laptop kits in their Signature line (PSD28G800SK ). They appeared for a while on Newegg at 299, but were only briefly if ever in stock. Then the price dropped to 269, never in stock. Now Newegg has deactivated the item.

Does anyone know what's going on? Is Patriot having production problems? Has demand just completely outstripped supply? Is this just vaporware? The price is WAY better than any other memory at this speed and capacity -- I keep expecting the other major manufacturers to jump in but haven't heard anything yet.
