Sounded pretty good until I read the reviews-RMA and rebate processing both seem a bit sketchy.

This is a good basic media player. Rebate is fine, I received mine without issues. The player is a bit dated but it does do a good job with pretty much all the media I throw at it, except for a couple but other players also get into trouble with them. Don't expect the world and don't compare it to an HTPC because it would definitely be trumped by the HTPC. For under $60, it is a good purchase.

I bought this a while back and got my rebate fine. I love mine. It plays more formats than pretty much any other player out there. It is a simple interface, but it works. Active community around it. This is the best media player out there IMO for playing file based media, not hulu/netflix/etc. I have playon for those but roku is better if that is all you want.

I love my box office. It's no thrills but gets the job done. And for the price, you could get two of these for the same cost of a single WDTV Live!! I got my rebate no problem, and have had no issues with the product. Theres a fairly active community over at the patriot forums to top it off.

@mleejr, I believe a new firmware update is adding a few online streaming capabilities. Not positive though.

Fantastic!

Since you brought up the firmware. One of the issues I do have with my PBO IS the firmware or should I say, the flashing of the firmware. It's iffy on my PBO. We all know the all the warnings regarding flashing firmwares. With the PBO, there have been more than one time I thought I bricked it. It isn't for the faint of heart.

I bough one of these about a year ago for the same price at fry's.

its pretty decent - playback quality is exceptional (except when sound starts fuzzy, fix is to just restart the video). there is a tiny fan on the thing - but you'll never hear it unless you put it up to your face.

the ui is pretty bad - but just get the custom firmware and you'll be okay

also, don't worry about bricking the thing, you can fix it with a $5 adapter from ebay (haven't bricked mine yet with custom firmware)

Good Deal... if someone is just looking for a basic media player it would do...

Is this the same company that makes Patriot Memory?

Any currenty owner confirm if there is a video shuffle on this?
I'm still looking for a few set-tops for around the house that do video shuffle (I'm an XBMC user, but I can't justify $200 machines in bedrooms and the like). I've posted on the PBO forums, but their representatives there are a bit lack luster it seems
