Patrick Volkerding is very ill.

It looks like fusetalk raped the link. :|

Fixed

Hopefully someone can help him out. He's been around for just about ever (first commercial distro ever and stuff).

Thank you, the link got raped when i edited the post, removed one word in the second sentence (change "the Patrick" to "Patrick")

I have used Slackware since before the first release, i will send what i can afford and hope for a speedy recovery.

The man is still working on 10.1 even though he is this sick, a great contributor with many followers, i hope he gets through this ordeal ok.

 i wish i had some. 😉

I think there is a post about how editting a post screws up the links in FI.

I've used slackware off and on since 7 was released. Definitely my favorite distro.

Ah, the problems with closed source, eh. 😉

DinkediBUMP and  for n0cmonkey.

I have tried most distros out there but the BSD init and the stability is something i value a lot, i hope he is going to be ok, although i have seen this before (my mother died in COLD (Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease)) and the prognosis is not good.

Hopefully he can get a lung transplant, there is a testing group that he might join, anywayz, best of luck to him. I will follow it up in this thread.

From the original link it didn't sound like he needed anything that drastic. Just a whole hell of a lot of pennicillan.

Seems the most drastic thing needed, or rather, urgent thing, was an accurate diagnosis. Good thing he finally got the right stuff.

There's a reason they call what doctors do a "practice."

Not at this point but as i mentioned, he prognosis is not good.

I agree that the correct diagnosis is important, and in these cases plenty of follow ups are needed.

In your lung you have loads of litle holes (bubbles) that are there to absorb the oxygen you breathe, when plaque starts to develop on the insides of your lungs it usually manifests itself as a back or shoulder pain and shortness of breath, eventually it destroys the areas which brings oxygen into the blood.

Yep, stuff like that is a whole bunch of fun.

Although he seems pretty decent off. If that bacteria realy is vunerable to pennicillian then it's a simple thing of taking massive doses.

The realy crappy part is going to come afterwards once ALL the helpfull bacteria in his body is going to be destroyed.. Lack of ability to digest food, increased risk of getting infected with something else, diahrea, etc etc. He's going to feel like crap for a long time. Probably going to have to take horse pills with bacteria culture to replace the stuff he's lost. I am guessing that sort of thing.

Doctors have it tough. I remember a folk-type story about a motorcycle mechanic and a surgical doctor having a conversation.
Mechanic: Doc, I want to ask you something.
Doc: Shoot.
Mechanic: Why do you guys get paid so much more then I do? A modern motorcycle engine is very complex. It's pistons are like the heart and the crankcase... blah blah blah (and he goes on for a long time about how the different motorcycles are like humans and so on and so forth.) And what I do is very complecated and difficult. You went to school for a long time, but it's took me years and years to get to my skill level. So why do you get paid so much more?
Doc: Well the difference is is that you don't have to work on the engines while their running.

Oh, and it's too bad that the human body doesn't have logging facilities, either. Stuff sucks sometimes.

Great story! Thanks for that one.
