Patch Confusion After Upgrading to Office 2010

Hi.

Last nite, after having learned here, in a thread, I was in harm's way still running Office 2007, I accepted I had to upgrade (no matter I resented it, lol) and got office 2010.

Before doing that, I uninstalled Office 2007 and then cleaned the registry.

Everything went normally. When installation was finished, as expected, MS started sending me patches.

Just this second, more came in. I looked, and, while most are for my new installation of 10, SOME are for Office 2007!

WHY????:\

My immediate impulse was to uncheck the latter.....but then, I thought, NO! make a thread and try to find out precisely what is going on here.

So I am. I will not move forward until I learn more. Tho, maybe I should just get them all, and when I learn more I could uninstall the 07 ones if necessary.

Thanks!!!!

Addendum: K...I just went into the registry, and, in MS Office I only now see what I expected re WORD , 14. I see nothing about 12. So now, I am even more confused re why they send me those few new patches for 2007.
I got rid of 2007!!!! But, MS seems not to know that.

Wait! I was wrong!

I just went back into registry and this time hit Local User.....and, in MS>Office, there is still key folder for 12!!! Along with the new 14.

OK, I need to slow down as usual.....should I just delete the keys for 12?

See, I thought those were already gone.....but U always gotta go in and look with yr actual eyes, I guess.

I should delete them, right? And then, MS will get Office 2007 is gone and stop sending me these stupid patches.

I will try to chill until pundits respond.

K New plan: I am going back and deleting that reg key folder for 12. Then, I will uncheck the hovering patches for 2007, let the ones the for 2010 install, reboot, go back to W update and see if I am good to go and they, out there on the wrong coast, get 2007 is gone.

I am doing this....despite I should prolly grow up and try to chill until pundits comment.

Update: K....I deleted the reg key folder for 12, unchecked the patches for Office 2007, the others---26 out of the original 35... are now installing and, just got it is Tuesday, so there are also some for W 7.

Any second now this will be all over and fixed. Pretty sure.

RATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I din work! I let all the good ones install, rebooted, I went immediately to W update and they said YOU HAVE PATCHES.....all those I unchecked for 2007!

How is this POSSIBLE? I DELETED THE REG KEY FOLDER FOR 12!

I am going back into registry. Maybe I missed sumthin. What am I missing? I NO LONGER HAVE OFFICE 2007!!!! Why don MS understand that???

Traces of Office 2007 must be hiding from me! How else can you explain this??! But I see nothing now, remaining in the registry in Local machine or Current User. Where are they hiding?????

AHAHHHHH!!!!!

K....I just went into Folders, made it show hidden folders.....then, went into Programs, MS, Office.....and there is a folder for 12!!! It was hiding! See that?

HAH!

Now, I WILL get rid of that folder, reboot and go back to
w updates and see if MS FINALLY GETS OFFICE 2007 IS HISTORY AND THENNN.....they will stop sending me patches for what I no longer have.

How logical is that??????

K....first, I apologize for giving other humans headaches via this DIARY....which, cause everyone appears understandably hiding, it is.😳

Next, boy, MS stuff hides! Over and over, I delved every way I knew how, and found more traces of Office 2007!!! and got rid of all them. Each time I did, my reg cleaners found infinite useless keys residues. I almost could not believe it, since, when I went in and looked, it seemed everything useless was gone.

So finally, now, I seem good to go.

It does now, finally appear, MS gets what they should STOP TRYING TO SEND ME.....cause Office 2007 is finally ABSENT.

Of course, any second now, it could just come back.😱 Pls get, I am in a slightly altered state:$, and not yet convinced a poltergeist specialist or a tree of garlic hands and many Crucifixes.... will not be needed a bit down the road.🙁

I did it right the first time, tho did not employ one of the magical fix it for me MS cuties.

Pls get, until I did all I did after....it did not get entirely gone.

Is that english?

Registry cleaners and deleting folders isn't really "right." Considering I haven't met a registry cleaner that didn't make a mess out of the registry.

Indeed it is. English, I mean. have you never read or heard a human articulate "get gone"?

And as for the latter.....I have met three.

Not once, so far have I messed up a registry.

Edit: Just because why not? I just ran the MS fix it for Office 7 removal. It ran, and there was nothing left to remove, it said in the DOS window as things unfolded. But also true, had I gone to the horse's mouth immediately last night, before getting Office 2010, I would have saved a lot of time!

Bottom line, I got it done the long way on my own.

Addendum:

I should add, I was going to make a screenie of the MS quick fix DOS window to put up, but, cause there was nothing left, it went fast, each line saying nothing, nothing, nothing.....and then the window closed.
