PATA wont' work in new system...

I currently have a SATA drive hooked up as my primary drive, and i am booting from it. I connected my pata drives to the secondary ide channel and 2 optical devices to the primary ide channel (the cable can only reach the primary channel). however, when i boot, it says that it sees only the secondary master drive, and not the secondary slave drive. the secondary master drive it sees, it cannot read the data, it says that there are errors on it, or it is not formatted....what can i do?

Is this a new system you've recently built/upgraded ?

Sounds like you don't have the jumpers setup on your hard drives correctly, or you have the cable incorrecly attached. ie Master/Slave.

Are the hard drives new (as in unformatted) or do they contain data ?
