PATA 200G Seagate 49.99 AR 160G SATA same price + shipping

Is anybody still having problems with the Seagate rebates?
This is not a TC but a genuine inquiry as I'd like to jump on both of these.

Seagate paid my rebate promptly when I got this same deal at Fry's a few months back. Nice quiet drive.

I picked up the PATA version of the 160GB at OM this week. That 200GB is a better deal, even with $7 shipping.

My recent Seagate rebate experiences have been good also. A bit more than a year ago, I had really bad experiences with Seagate rebates. It does appear that they have made major improvements.

last two rebates i've postmarked myself with a pitney bowes machine and they've both been denied for being postmarked after the date.

a phone call resolved it, but that's still a pain in the ass.

They are on sale at Fry's B&M as well.
Anybody going to Fry's today? Can somebody check and post if there's a sale on the 36GB Raptor?

I don't upgrade HDDs very often, so I usually try to get top-of-the line in speed. Is there any (real-world) difference between SATA and SATA 3.0Gb? If they're basically equivalent, I might jump in on this.

Usually the day before the rebate expires, Outpost offers free shipping on these. Note: USUALLY.

Cool let's all buy it on 12-8. BTW, I don't think there's huge real world diff bet SATA I and SATA 3.0 right now cause the drives don't exceed SATA I speed but SATA 30 is good when you got RAIDs.

SATA 1.5 vs SATA 3.0

The following is how to get REAL WORLD differences from the two.

#1 get two drives...then Stripe them
#2 ...That's about it.

No other really good way...Sure you can throw in a quick bust speed trial to do it for a VERY short time...but practically nothing else.
A Raptor can hang with any SATA 3.0 drive...
SATA 3.0 is right now about striping and future drives...not single drives...
Any boost you see is going to probably be more from Size/Compression than anything else

Sata 1.5 is good enough for "most" of us. Especially those that care about price.

I've made 3 seagate purchases in the past few months...all 3 had 2 rebates, 1 from Seagate & 1 from CC. All 3 cases worked out great.
