Very interesting indeed.

Even the farthest right is now slowly coming to the realization that vice cannot be regulated through force of law?

Pretty damn not interesting. This guy won't do anything to help end prohibition.

How can you say that? He's one of the most influential people in America.

This is surprising to me but its a very good sign. If this trend continues it will be the end of the Democratic party.

He's got 80 years of life under his belt. What could he possibly do to help end it? At this point, I'm sure he could give a damn.

Well one thing we can say about Pat Robertson. Unlike a broken clock, Pat is right far less than twice a day.

Problem is, most law enforcement is for criminalization of MJ and they have an incentive to.

It is already decriminalized here in CA. You guys need to catch up.

Decriminalized isn't enough, it's a good start, but legalization is the only answer.

Pat Robertson, So far to the right he's left?

He's got 80 years of life under his belt. What could he possibly do to help end it?

A lot of people respect him, and his opinions can change minds. The biggest problem with legalization is getting the soccer moms, and middle America to accept that it isn't going to turn the country upside down, which I never understood how people think it could be worse unless they have been living under a rock through the last three decades.

Someone has obviously never heard of LEAP.

I have :)

Problem isn't the street level officers, it's the bureaucracy. LOTS of funding comes from the War on Drugs™, billions, the incentive to keep it illegal isn't so much moral as economical.

Did Pat buy into a dispensary? Maybe blood diamonds aren't offering him the returns they once did and he needs a new revenue stream. On one hand he can sell primo wicked weed and on the other invite former stoners to witness on his station.

No, i've heard of them, but they're a very small minority of law enforcement.

http://www.aphf.org/surveyresults.pdf

19. Should marijuana be legalized in the United States for those who have a legitimate medical need for the drug?

yes: 38.9%

21. Has the national war on drugs, which has been going on for more than 15 years, been successful in reducing
the use of illegal drugs?

No: 82%

A minority, but hardly a small one. And the vast majority believe the war on drugs is a massive failure.

Why is it so surprising to some that other people actually have the ability to form independent thoughts?

Coming to it after forty years of unmitigated disaster is hardly "independent thought".

Then you *clearly* missed the point of this thread.

Let me rephrase - Robertson is of "the hard right" and if someone of "the hard right" ever says something that is not toeing the line of "the hard right" there is this gasp of excitement that proves the rest of "the hard right", and anyone else who is of the alternate position, is deemed automatically wrong. Now if anyone else ever comes out against pot, one can come right back and "win" the argument simply by stating "Pat Robertson supports decriminalization."
