Pasting super long URL's

I just pasted a link on another site, and it was so long that it caused my screen (1280x1024) to have to be scrolled sideways. If I post big images, I know how to reduce them so that they are reasonable in size for all viewers. But how do you do that for links (in a forum)? Like, I've seen lots of links that were something like "go here" or "see this" or whatever.

Any easy way to do this?

Check out dyndns.org. They have a way of doing this and it's free.

edit: nevermind, yeah just use the http button like notfred suggested. I misunderstood your request.

On some forums the best way is Tiny URL (so bookmark this site)....

http://tinyurl.com/

..........just copy a url.......paste into the box (at the site above) and hey presto! a tiny url that works anywhere..........then just copy and paste the new TinyUrl into whatever.

For example the url for this thread is...

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=33&threadid=1300346&enterthread=y

and the tiny url is

http://tinyurl.com/2z9lj
