Is there any way to take a formatted text file, ie from a sql spool file, and paste it into a excel spreadsheet while maintaining formatting. When i do it, it puts it all in the A column.

open excel, open the text file and then choose the delimiter. The file should get formatted automatically.

You can also use the Text to Columns feature under the Data menu.

text to columns is a nice feature...

for some really powerful text to spreadsheet conversions, check out a program called "Monarch", it's amazing if you work with a lot of data or text files - I consider it a must have for any excel power users.

This probably won't help much but I have actually had more success pasting tab and space delimited stuff into OpenOffice. I don't use OpenOffice for work related stuff but I have actually used it at work for this reason. I would paste in OpenOffice and then copy it and past into excel. However, the importer looks like it would work well too.
