Passwords reverting in active directory

I have a strange issue i have never encountered before. I have a few users who are prompted to change their password, they change it and are allowed to log into the desktop. Say after a hour or so they log out go to lunch or what not they attempt to log back in and it will not accept the new password but will allow the to log in via the old password. Im sitting here scratching my head to the cause can anyone steer me in the right direction. DC = Windows Server 2008 R2
