Hello all, I had a question and i was hoping someone could help me out. The system is windows XP and I partiioned my moms 80 gb hard drive 60>20... 60 for my mom 20 for my brother. I was wondering if there is anyway to password protect her hard drive???? or is there any non complicated way so he can only log in, see and access his hard drive and her the same thing? I basically want him to only have access to his hard drive, would I need to install an operating system on his also? or whats the correct procedure for something like this?

btw its xp-home not pro.

I BELIEVE that this could be done using Group Policy editor (gpedit.msc) because I think I remember a section in there about hiding drives, but I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else will have more info...

Hey corky instead of the one you showed I downloaded the access manager off of that website... IT IS AWESOME... you can control like every possible part of the computer... everything set...

ANYONE KNOW where you can get ACCESS MANAGER for less than 49 dollars? It's a great program but im not paying that much just to keep my bro off of porn...

Why don't you just create a Limited account called Punk Brother for your bro. He won't be able to get into C:\Documents and Settings\Mom from his Punk Brother account. That could also head off a lot of other problems (spyware, adware, viruses, Trojans).

So what I'd do is start over, just use the whole 80GB, and give him a Limited account and make sure Mom is saving her stuff in her My Documents, My Pictures, My Videos folders and not, like, right out on the C: drive.

Oh, and if feasible, I'd set Mom up with a Limited account too, and then have a separate password-protected Admin account named "Admin" that is only used when Admin power is actually needed. This way, if Punk Brother walks in on Mom's session while she's away, he can't knight himself as an Administrator from her account.
