Hi Guys,

Dumb Question - I have a co-worker nagging me for some help and I've never researched/looked into this personally - but assume it should be something he'd be able to figure out himself, you know, google and all.

He wants to password protect an external hard drive. (the whole drive, password to access it). He would be using Windows 7.

Is there any free programs that do this?

From what I quickly googled, it appears to be a paid app accommodation, but if its cheap enough he would probably purchase.

Hoping somebody can drop some experiences they have had with this here to save me from shooting myself in the head. (I seem to have this reputation as the in house tech person at my office who will use my own time no issue to solve your problems for free)

It's Monday.

My mistake, it requires Win7 Ultimate or Enterprise.....

I would use Truecrypt and encrypt the drive. It's been audited and is still secure despite that Lavabit crap. Veracrypt has NOT been through an audit and I won't be using it untill one is done. Which may be like never.

The team that audited TC is suppose to audit SSL next according to a DEFCON presentation I seen.
