Password Problem (win2k/98)

Hello all...

I currently have a network consisting of one win2k machine and two win98 machines.

I set up a directory to be shared on the win2k system (for RC5 cracking 🙂 ). One of my win98 home computers connects to it fine. The other 98 machine gives me the message "You must supply a password to make the connection."

Why can one machine connect and the other one can not. I have been through the properties of both machines, and everythin seems to be identical.

Any insight you may have is greatly appreciated.

TIA

You need to do the following to go from the Win98's ----> Win2K
The Win2K machine must have a User account for the person logged on to the Win98 Box.

You create accounts on the Win2k box through user manager.

Logging in on a Win98 box is rarly thought about at home. If your Win98 box does not prompt you to logon, Check your Network properties, most likely your default logon is WINDOWS LOGON, change it to CLIENT FOR MICROSOFT NETWORKS.

Same info on both sides and it should work

another option is to enable the guest acct on win2k and add the guests group to share permissiions
