Password issues

A co-worker (one I trust) has a Gateway notebook he's offering to sell cheap if I'm interested. He took it in trade for some work he did when the guy couldn't pay him.

It's a Gateway MX6421. It has a BIOS password, an HDD password and a system password on it and I don't have and can't get any of them. I can live without getting into the BIOS, and I'm will to put in a new HDD, but if I can't reset the system password I'm screwed.

Is there anything I can do? Or shall I cough twice and pass?

You can always try removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes, then replacing it. If you can't clear it, you had best pass on the deal. It can also be sent to Gateway, but they will want more $$$ than it is probably worth.

I had a Gateway laptop, and several others, HP, WinBook, now Lenovo. One thing I would never, ever do is set a BIOS password. It is usually a recipe for bad things.

in bios just remove the password
for getting the admin password there are software to remove it and then install your own and replace the user password with it.

Google for password removing software.
