Password in Oracle 8i...Need for homework

I just installed Oracle 8i and am trying to get into the program SQLPLUS. It has a user name and a password and I cannot log in.

You can go into DBA studio, click on the database you want, go the user accounts in security and change the password to whatever u like :)

I think this will also work:

user = scott
password = tiger


Some old standard account that creates by default named after one of the creators of Oracle, and his cat "Tiger" IIRC.

This is quite possibly the most sad and pathetic thread I have read so far today. Oracle needs to clean up their act...

It is beyond belief that you install a program that chooses it's own username and password and fails to tell you about it.

Err, no they tell you about it towards the end of installation.

And IIRC, most accounts are disabled.

All of their extensive documentation is free and searchable at Technet, so you have no excuse. :p
