password for shutting down?

hey guys. i was just wondering whether or not it's possible to set up a password (in windows or in the bios) in order to shut down the computer.

case in point, i had some open documents and left my room for a while. then one of my roommates logged on to the guest account (after the screen saver came on), went online for a bit, and then turned off my computer.

i would like to prevent this from happening again. it's pretty annoying.

There is a registry entry that disable (Grey out) the Shutdown option regardless if they are login or at the login window. Don't remember whats its call. Maybe someone can provide you with the entry.

I am not aware of any passwords that can be implemented for shutting down the system, but you can use local Security policy to prevent it. In Administrative Tools, load the Local Security Policy tool. Under Security Settings, Local Policies, User Right Assignment, change the "shut down the system" setting to be groups that you want to grant this priviledge too. IE Adminsitrators only.
