With the new regulation of all US citizens required to have a passport in order to fly anywhere outside/into the US i.e Caribean, Canada, Bermuda etc. Do you think it will increase the time it takes to get a passport? The current time is 6-8 weeks.
 
That is what people are saying... People might be scambling to get them, but we got ours this past early fall and it took about 5 weeks.
 
You can order expedited and get in something like 2 weeks. We did that earlier this year. It costs like $60 or so extra though.

I did this too back in 2002 when I had to make a sudden overseas trip. Took 5 days from turning in the paperwork to having a passport in my hands.
 
It was fairly quick. As long as you fill out the forms and don't have anything that flags the data, they can print them off rather quickly. I think mine took a week or two when I got it.
 
oh I plan to get it apply for one now, But I was just wondering because I am planning a vacation in February and want to know if I should not expect it by then.
 
I told you guys you needed to get a passport many months ago.
😉

I also heard on the radio that this is a busy time for passports - lots of spring break kids getting theirs for the first time.

You'll definitely get it before then.
 
And don't do what my wife did and leave them in cargo pant pockets then proceed to wash and dry the pants. Nothing like a ruined passport 2 weeks before another trip (expidited hers and mine and had them in 8 business days - I was really getting nervous).
 
A passport is good for 10 years. If you're even thinking about traveling, it's best just to apply now and get it early than wait and scramble at the last second.

A new one takes about a week (at the US Embassy in Seoul, Korea) and renewals take about the same amount of time.

It is 10.. And how or why would anyone not have a passport? i have had two (US and UK) for as long as I remember. And when they come to within a year of expiring, I get them renewed.

I just got my US passport renewed, and I had it back in two weeks from the day I sent it. Pretty fast.
 
Just got my new passport today, took 2 weeks to the day and that was with the U.S. embassy having to send my application stateside and then waiting for the state department to send the passport back here.

I can't imagine why it would take more than a week if you're in the states.
