Passport Question

I am starting a new job in a week and I'm going to be required to do a lot of international traveling. It will mainly involve Mexico and I was wondering if a passport is even required for Mexico. I went to the Caribbean recently and only needed a birth certificate and driver's license.

BTW, I am going to the county office on Wednesday to start the process of getting a passport but I doubt I will have it in time for the first trip.

A passport just makes things easier, but its not necessary. I would apply for one, if you will be traveling a lot, though.

if you need a passport quick, you can get it expedited for about $65 extra and you'll get it the next day.

i doubt you need one for mexico though.. just a driver's license or birth certificate

if you are going to be traveling anywhere outside the US on a regular basis, i recommend a passport regardless of the "requirements"

just get one

heh, tell the employer to get it for you. You shouldn't pay for it.

And absolutely get a passport if you leave the USA.

Required? Not everywhere (caribbean, etc)

But why risk it?

Well, as I said, I am going to start the passport process on Wednesday but needed to know if the birth certificate would work until I get the passport.

Also, my employer is reimbursing me so that's already covered.

Next day? In my state it was ~$65 for three weeks expedited, and another $30 for "overnight" shipping to make it two weeks (don't ask me how that's "overnight" shipping).

Ditto and it was only traveling from 1 state over, but that was 2 years ago and I think things have changed since then.

Yes get a passport. For Mexico, I think a drivers license will do if you're a US citizen. But when you're entering a country to do business, the rules might/sometimes change.

Well, I just got mine a few days ago 🙂 It cost me ~$115 total I think, and I didn't go with the "overnight" for $30 nonsense.

Hell, I was just told to get it expedited and such and that I would be reimbursed for the whole thing. Sweet.

I went to the Federal Building in LA.. there's probably a building similar somewhere close to where you live..

i was in a hurry to get my passport, since i was leaving the country two weeks later, so i went in one day, handed them the paper work, paid the fees and they told me to come back the next day and it would be ready for me to pick up
