I would agree to a certain point and I've been to singapore and malaysia many times. It seems as far as I remember that everybody was doing great. I came from brunei, we get along really well with other nationalities AFAIK. Maybe being gone from that part of that world for 11 years , people changed I guess.

In fact, if you want to go back to just before the crusades...Islamic Armies conquered all of the Middle East, most of Northern Africa, Spain, and was making in-roads into other parts of southern Europe. The Crusades were, in part, a a disjointed European response to this.
