I know this isn't AToSTATEDEPARTMENT :) but it's Sunday and I figured someone here may know.

For proof of identity they ask for a driver's license. I assume a copy will work, right? They can't expect me to be without my license for a week (getting it expedited because I have to travel soon) can they?

The driver license is for when you turn the applicantion in at the post office or another PP office. They will need that and a copy of your birth cert. to verfiy you. So just make a copy of both.
Also we are pretty much caught up on the backlog of applications so it should not be longer then beofre this year.

Hmm. I never turned my stuff in at any post office. I had to send my birth cert. to the PP office in New Orleans, though. I forget what else I had to send.. My memory is teh shit.

But by copy you mean an official copy of the birth certificate, not a photocopy.

when i did my passport (all of last january) they absolutely would not take a photocopy - only official copies.
But DL was just at the window i got it processed at. Birth certificate went with app and didnt see it for 6 weeks

I actually thought they never gave mine back.. I looked in the stuff they sent me and everything. But like a year later, I found it in the same envelope.. It was just somehow well concealed I guess. haha.

Correct they will keep the real copy but it will come back when you get your passport. But make a copy of your Birth Cert. just in case you lose your license or need it for something else while the real one is gone.
