What are you guys using as a passive heat sink no your video cards (no fan)? I have heard people say that the Zalman heat pipes are way overkill, so what is everyone using instead?

From the benchmarks I've seen, I wouldn't call the Zalmans "overkill". I'd call them "sufficient".

How 'bout this?

It's absolutely overkill, but it's also around $5.

If you've got your top PCI slot open (this thing is tall) then you might consider it.

Good luck!

That is not overkill, that won't work for a lot of the newer GPUs.

No way I'd put that on my Ti4200...
Even Zalman's low-end heatpipe passive cooler (ZM50-HP) isn't said to work well on high end cards, and this Zalman model requires a fan bracket for high-end cards.

Im using the PCI-Slot-eater Zalmon. Its GREAT, but 2" thick on the card.

Stable and never seems to get real hot. Its on a TI 4200. I dont overclock, I think it would just judging by the heatsink temps.

i just installed the ZM80A (the newest zalman heatpipe cooler) and used as3 instead of their thermal gease. all i can say it, its great. and it definately is NOT overkill cuz it gets nice and toasty, but definately not hot.

I have a Zalman ZM17-cu on a geforce 2 ultra 64 (for a few days now). I've run it through 3D mark and games and have seen not artifacts or any other problems at all. However I do have a 120mm fan blowing right onto it at very low speed (silent, on a fan bus). I've also touched it after running benchmarks and was only warm. So I'm very happy with it :D

i just cut a 92mm hole on the sside of the case right above the vid card and have a fan blowin it. probably works for most videocards.
