passive cooling

thinking of buying
e3 1260l xeon intel cpu which is rated 45 watt
so the question is can i passive cool it?
this can be used to cool it passive? or
this

the first has the advantage of mere weight 848gr of copper
the second adds heatpipe in the equation but it is half weight 400gr
or another solid copper sink will be better to suit the need?
 
Why do you want passive cooling? You can achieve a virtually no-noise or very low noise setup with active cooling as well.

more or less if i can do it thing lol
since after a while we have cpu with small tdp so
lets see can you passive cool them and not skyrock the temps?!?!
 
You can do it but need a massive heatsink. IMO its not worth it, just go with a low speed silent fan and call it a day.

Also those heastink you listed i seriously doubt would passive cool a CPU, perhaps for shorts busts of usage but anything that loads that CPU up for any amount of time you would need a fan on those sinks. I would look at the larger NH-D14 size sinks(NH-D14, Silver arrow, Xigmatek Thors Hammer, or a thermalright TRUE copper would be ideal)

for that which you can not buy anymore
i have found sites that passived cooled cpu and not meaning 45 watt cpu lol

I know they are hard to get a hold of but come up for sale every once and a while if you watch the for sale section of message boards such as this one. And it really would be the ideal heatsink for a passive CPU, although i think anything with more than 700g of metal in it will do the job. Would still need to either use a very large case or have a case fan for ventilation. I can passive cool my i7 with my NH-D14 at stock speeds, but still need case fans, i do this in the summer sometimes when i reduce my overclock and actually underclock it to reduce heat.

well one heatsink i list is 848g or copper with a bit strange design though lol
 
i missread the specs, clicked same link twice and only saw the 400g one. You will be fine with the larger one.
