passive cooling for GF4?

After replacing my PSU and heatsink, my copper GF4 heatsink/fan from thermaltake is by far the loudest component in my system. It seems to be louder than when I got in, and I'm wondering if I can disable the included noisy fan and just have a case fan blowing on it if that's taking a big risk. I don't have temp monitoring on this card, but it's not OD'd.

Alternately is there some safe lubricant I can try to quiet it down? Thanks.

Ah. I had one of those Tt G4 coolers, its fan eventually croaked 🙁

I did oil it at one point, I usually put a drop or two of 30 weight motor oil onto the bearing when I lube a fan. 3 in 1 should work also. I can't say that it quieted the screamer in that G4 down, but it's done so to other fans.

I shut it up by undervolting. I just used its 3 to 4 pin adapter and swapped the pins around on the 4 pin side to set it for 7 volts.

7 Volt Trick

You can also set it for 5 volts, by simply swapping its 12 volt lead for the 5 volt one.
