i got my permit late, so i had to wait 6 months after that minimum to take the drivers test and you have to be 17.. so august 7 i am allowed to take my NJ drivers test. hows the test like, and any tips that you guys can give me? i've been driving with my dad a couple times a week so driving should be no problem at all.. i think i should just practice parallel parking and im fine.

The test, at lest for me was incredibly easy. Make sure you can operate all vehicle controls (4-way flashers, wipers, lights, etc) or the tester WILL fail you straight out. Also make sure that your car is in working order and all of the lights work, otherwise they will tell you to GTFO. The parallel parking was so easy since the spot was freaking huge... I could have easily parked a Suburban in it. Oh, and good luck.

I made a thread on here awhile ago when I went for mine.

Later, after I took it, I found out that drivers tests are jokes.

I seriously think that it should be law that you have to take a drivers education program prior to the test, so you atleast have done driving, and been taught how to drive better officially, under the eye of a certified teacher. They make you record 10 hours of driving where I live, but everyone I know just made up hours. It is B.S.

But anyways, don't worry, it is easy. The only thing you should practice is parallel parking, since it is the only thing that most people have trouble with.

This man speaks the truth. I'm pretty sure you would have to try to fail. I thought the permit test was harder than the actual driving test for God's sake.

Find out how long a space they give you to parallel park in. Shorten that significantly. Practice in that. I used a 17ft space - just long enough for the car I was taking the test in. They give you TWENTY FIVE feet in Maryland. It felt like I could've fit a bus in there.

Driving tests are generally easy, but it depends on where you're taking it. If you take it here in Vancouver, you better be ready, and follow the rules of the road to the letter, shoulder check on every turn, stop completely before stop signs, never go over the speed limit, etc etc. I think for parallel parking they will never give you a difficult spot to park in, you will always get at least 1.5 to 2 car lengths or more.

The parrallel parking is easy... they give you like 2 whole car spaces. Other than that, make sure the car is in working order.

yea the only problem is for the parallel parking is that i will have to use my dads dodge caravan, the other only car in my family currently is a station wagon that ive never driven.

Check your mirrors consistently. Driver's door, rear-view, passenger door. They love seeing that.

MAKE COMPLETE STOPS AT STOP SIGNS. Even if you can, I would advise against turning right on red.

Drive like a 60 year old woman would. 5mph under the speed limit, look over your shoulders and use your mirrors even if you're on an abandoned street, etc.

I failed the first time because I went through a yellow and the guy failed me right there. I told him I didn't run the light, it was yellow when I exited the intersection and he just gave me this BS story that you aren't supposed to go through yellow lights? The guy was an ass the entire time though. He pushed on the passenger side mirror so he could see behind him and I was like, "Woah buddy, what are you doing to my mirror?" and he said, "I'm aligning it so I can see." I informed him that the mirrors were for the driver and he said "In a small car like this (a Honda Accord) that I should be using the windows."

Fsck him. Three of my good friends had the same guy and he failed all of them. Abused his power.

The second time I took my driver's test, passed with flying colors. When I finished the guy told me I did "very well."

That's why you should have disputed the result with his supervisor.
