Passing 1360x768 (from HTPC) through a receiver, 1080p being forced

Hey all, I was attempting to set up a tv/receiver/htpc in our guest bedroom last night, but was running into an issue. I was attempting pass through a resolution of 1360x768 (native res of the tv) through the receiver, and to the TV. Instead, it the receiver 'forces' 1080p (distorting the image), regardless of the resolution set in the windows preferences.

Receiver is the Yamaha RX-V375. Video card is an AMD HD 7850. TV is Pioneer PDP5080HD.

My guess is that the receiver doesn't like non-standard resolutions. Anyone run into this issue? Or know of a work-around?
 
So is your TV now running in a otherwise unavailable 1080p mode or do you have overscan?

Because I had the same issue with an old 720p LCD TV (the receiver unlocked a 1080p mode), but my solution was "awesome I can watch stuff at 1080p now!!!"

It's strange. Normally, this TV accepts 1080p signals, and displays them as 1080i. This seems to be working correctly for the Xbox and PS3 I have attached to the receiver as well. In this case (with the HTPC), even when I select 1080p for the resolution, it doesn't display correctly. A 3'' black bar displays around image at all times. Seems like the receiver isn't passing through the signal correctly.
 
Ouch, that sounds like it sucks. Two options I can think of:

1. Go in the Windows control panel and select the option to see non-compatible resolutions and try to force it that way.

2. VGA to TV, optical to reciever, use Harmony to achieve WAF.
 
Maybe it has like upconvert or something like that. Then there is a PC resize to fit option. So what is the purpose of that resolution?

Are you using HDMI output or converting it from DVI to HDMI or what? So is that resolution 16:9 aspect ratio or something else?

Had the same problem passing through a 1080p signal through the same receiver to my Samsung UN55D7900 using an ATI card as well (R5 230/HD6450). The solution I used was to enable GPU scaling and then in the overscan/underscan screen, tell it to use the GPU scaling settings instead of the over/underscan adjustments.
