passenger window in wifes car won't budge

The description says it all. Is there some way to pop off a panel on the door and release whatever is keeping the window down long enough to move the glass up, then attach it again so it stays up? It's a '93 Subaru Legacy (sigh...).

You have to remove the door panel from the inside and you should get a better picture of what's up once you have the door panel removed. It could be many things.

1. Windows slipped off track
2. Motor burned out
3. Linkage damaged

Depending on what type of system you have.

Alright. Tonight I'll remove whatever panel(s) I can and see what I can see. For a while the window would work sometimes, and other times it wouldn't. Now it seems like it won't move at all. Though it did move down a few times. Just not up.

Door panels are usually held on by a few screws (near the handle or armrest) as well as some of those plastic clips that just pop off. Shouldn't be that hard to get it off and see what's going on in there.

When you remove the door panel you will probably see clear plastic that's glued to the steel door frame. If you do take care that it's re-glued back. I'm not quite sure what that plastic was ever for????

4. Window Regulator

Added the other thing to check for, newer vehicles the regulator/motor are an all in one units

Before you take anything off, how about checking the fuse? Most cars have separate fuses for each window. That might not be the problem, but doing anything else is like opening up your non-powering computer case without checking to see if it is plugged in first.

It could also be as simple as a bad switch...the rocker on my old Grand Prix (98) doesn't make good contact all the time, so I have to push it at odd angles. I've take it apart and cleaned it off before, which helped for 2 months and then it started happening again.

Will the operator's manual tell me where to look for this fuse? I don't know much about cars or how to maintain them properly, so this will be a new thing for me. Once I find it, what am I looking for? How do I tell if the fuse is bad? I assume I can just go to Autozone or O'Reilly to pick up a new one specific to the make and model?

yes, there should be a fuse box located near the drivers side area.

When you take out a fuse you can see through them. Look to see if the metal is still in one piece, if its become separated then you have a bad fuse. Usually they include a few extra fuses but you may not have them anymore. will be cheap if thats the issue
