Passed out giving blood!!!

I've given blood over 6 times so far without a hitch. I went last night and well it was taking a LOT longer than usual. They kept saying, "you're getting there." Well I usually fill a bag in 7 mins or so. I was on the chair for over 20 mins. All of a sudden I get tunnel vision and I just said I don't feel so good. They gave me some gatorade and thats the last thing I remember 😀

I was out for about 5 seconds. I had a long dream during that time too (apparently most people do). I'm pretty sure I just hadn't hydrated myself enough. I'm definately going again.

Standard obligatory response: You're dying. 😛

Actually, I've had a technician tell me that people just don't take the "rest and have some juice" seriously enough. Kudos for giving blood though!

That happend to me the first time I gave blood.

It was a long time before I decided to try again.

I've been fine ever since.

OMG... 😉
OP you have testicular fibrosis caused by a hematoma of the right cortex. 😉 😛

First time I gave blood my vein shifted and the needle poked the other side. I had to sit there for a few minutes while the bag filled before they took it out. That was pretty painful.

I gave blood once and let enough people pass me in line, that i didn't go to 3 1/2 hours worth of classes. and it was all excused because it was a school thing. Anyway, I barely got dizzy w/o the break, I don't know if that has something to do with how fast my body makes blood or something, because I do have bloody noses quite often.

You are brave. Think I asked once if I can give less and they wouldn't let me do it and they said I would be OK so I haven't gave since.

You did the right thiing though. Will have to do again sometime.

Hasn't happened to me yet, sounds like an awesome experience. Although, I did pass out from exhaustion. I was in the bathroom, going pee, and I pass ed out. I have a wild dream flying and really awesome sh!t just to wake up a few seconds later saoked in my own piss.

I'm afraid to try because I don't do well around blood... well... it's not so much not doing well around blood, it's more thinking about needles poking an things cutting...

I work in a lab, one night in January I had a piece of equipment fail, shattering a glass tube in my hand. Luckly, I came away with only 1 really bad cut, but it required stitches. When I was first getting it wrapped up, I had to sit down because there were like... flashbacks and near halucinations of the shard of glass flying right into my hand over and over.

Then I was fine for a couple of hours when I went to the emergency room and got the info and stuff taken care of. But the second one of the nurses started cleaning it so I could get stitched, same thing. Maybe I'm just f'ed in the head or have a crazy-ass imagination, but the nurse had to open up the wound to clean it, and once the blood started up again, the same mindfvck of seeing the glass puncturing my skin started...

From there... uhh... I'm told I went pale, was sweating in an air-conditioned room, and was mostly coherant... I think they said that I was actually in full-blown shock... they had to give me half an hour before they could pump my hand full of lidocane and stitch it. I tried to hold on as long as I could, but yeah, tunnelvision... it was like someone was taking the contrast slider all the way up in Photoshop or something. Voices shounded distant but clear. The only way I made it through that is closing my eyes and listening to Conan on the TV next to me.

I didn't feel a lick of pain the entire time... in fact, it didn't hurt at all until the stitches came out a week later. Once I was wrapped up I never got woozy or anything again.

So yeah. I wish I could give blood, and I want to... but I don't know if I can go the distance and fill a bag... can they keep going if you go out on them?

I have a major problem with letting other people stick me with needles. I figure it's mostly because I do it all the time to other people(I'm a student nurse). I'm quite good I usually only miss every couple weeks or if they are a bad IV drug abuser then I just let them stick themselves if possible. I was also disappointed when I went to give blood they wouldnt let me stick myself so I told them sorry wont do it and havent been back since.

Maybe I'll go again and they'll let me try 😛
