I'm throwing a party this weekend and I'm going to have about, say, fourteen people. and I'm going to be buying two bottles of liquor. As much as I like grey goose, etc., I just think one bottle is going to me smirnoff vodka. What would you get as a second bottle? I'm thinking a well-quality gin but then again a lot of people I know don't like gin...

(yes, I am of legal age).

Edit: BTW I'm looking at 1L bottles here.

I would say get crown royal its popular with alot of people and if you are getting a bottle of smirnoff , both combined should not put you over the 40 dollar mark. Some other good choices would be bacardi rum or bombay sapphire gin

$40.00? Here's what I would purchase, 1 bottle of Jack Daniel's & 1 bottle of Smirnoff.

get two big cheap generic handles, spend a few bucks on juice, and a few bucks on fruit and throw a hairy buff party.

And pour those supermarket brand drinks into some old bottles of the fancy stuff...no one will be able to tell the difference

I'd buy a big bottle of something cheap and a nickle sac of some bud. Everyone will be laughing until they pass out from drinking too much. And if you run out of alcohol, no one will remember the next morning.

BTW: I always wanted to buy a keg of ODouls or something non-alcoholic while I was in high school. Have a big party and watch people act like they are getting wasted. My friends and I always thought that would be a riot. But, if you're of age, then I'm guessing those attending are probably of age and don't act like high school first time drinkers.

Once everyone is drunk off the first bottle it won't matter what the second one is )

pfft... screw the Gin. Go for a good bottle of rum. You can never go wrong w/ haveing a bottle of rum and vodka. If someone doesn't like either of them, they shouldn't be drink'n at all!

I'm big on Absolut Citron. 2 shots of it with some tonic over crushed ice and a lemon or orange slice.....best drink ever! Of course, I'm the guy that always drinks vodka while my buddy slobs guzzle down beer.

Definitely a bottle of rum (whichever brand and color variety is up to you.) There's just too many good rum drinks NOT to have rum laying around. I'd personally then either opt for a bottle of gin or vodka since whiskey tastes a little too similar to rum compared to the other two. Either way (1) rum or whiskey and (2) gin or vodka.

Rum and Vodka are industry standards for any party. If have some money left over, get some JD or Gin for the real drinkers. Also, two or three cases of cheap beer for drinking games and late night boozing is always good.

Gimme a break! If you can't tell the difference between Popov and Grey Goose, or between Mr. Generic Gin and Beefeater (which is better than Bombay Sapphire!) then you're not drinking enough.

If you're going to go the cheap route, so be it... but at least be proud about it. There are any number of ways to mask the taste of skunky alcohol, but there's no reason to lie about it.

I can't believe no one suggested this already... Forget that quality stuff. Party time? Then get as much Everclear as you can. You might be able to get two (or three) handles of Everclear for $40. Not sure what a handle costs, but that would make several gallons of jungle juice. Enjoy.

I'm surprised here.

Party? And no one has mentioned Tequila?

So you've got the Smirnoff, the Cranberry Juice, the Collins Mix
Then the Tequila, the Limes, the salt, the margarita mix.

$40 isn't enough. Have your guest bring the fixings, you get the alki.

It's outside your price range, but Cabo Wabo Tequila is worth every cent.
Then again so is Oban Scotch. But I'm guessing scotch is not the order of the night if you're trying to get plastered.
