Parts that Don't Devalue?

Are there any computer parts that don't decrease in value very quickly? Parts that are worth almost the same a year after they are bought? Any info would be welcomed.

Heh everything devalues. High end server stuff will retain value for longer than most items. Also upper end video cards seam to retain value for a while (Radeon 9800 Pro for example).

However, they still devalue and well if you looking at investment opprotunities look elsewhere.

most high end speakers maybe?
cant think of anything else

There are periods where RAM is stable or even a little higher for a year or more before the next plummet.

Floppy drives have been stable at $5-10 for years.

Specific motherboard models don't drop much after the first 6-9 months, but after a year there is often a newer socket and motherboards for the same socket with more features.

CPU, video, hard drives all drop to half their value or less (for new, sealed parts) roughly every 1.5 - 2 years, as newer models with roughly double the power at the same cost are released.

not so much looking for an investment, im building my first system and im building it on my allowence almost, ill have enough to finish it after the summer, so should i wait till then? or are there any parts that i could buy now to help keep my interest at its currently high level?

The only thing I can think of that would retain the same value is the case. And that's assuming the form factor is around for a while

The heatsinks, fans, power supply, floppies, keyboard, mouse, cables, and case don't really fluctuate at all. Ram, optical drives (excluding dvd-rw), basic ethernet cards, speakers, and crts don't change a ton, but they do change a bit (ram being the leader). That's all I can think of right now.

Screws, - as long as they are not burred or stripped. Usually they are given away. 🙂
