OK, I'm puting together a shopping list for a new system. I' m kind of new at putting together a whole system. So I need your help with matching them up. What do you think?
msi kt3 ultra2
amd xp 2000+ retail w/ fan
wd800jb 80 gig w/ 8mb cache
msi g4 mx400-t 64mb ddr
toshiba 16x dvd
lite on 48x cdrw
256k kingston pc 2700 ddr
samsung 700nf 17" crt
windows xp pro

I use system mainly for internet and some games. Won't need to overclock, I'm just looking for a fast and stable system with components that are well matched. Also I would like to use my current case and PS but I don't know if the 250 w PS will be adequate. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

sbw i suggestion getting at least a GF4 ti 4200 with 128 mb of video ram instead of the msi g4 mx400-t 64mb ddr. It will last you longer in games overtime, going with 128 mb of video ram will be more future proof, etc. Inless you want to wait for the ATI 9500 or ATI 9500 pro to see how it does with the final hardware instead of the preview. Even going with the GF3 ti 200 would be better than the msi g4 mx400-t 64mb ddr if you want it to be alittle cheaper but i think the extra money on the GF4 ti 4200 is worth it though sense you can overclock it to even be faster if you ever need to or want to.

you could go with a 1600XP and use the money you save over the 1900XP toward a better video card...

you may want to look at getting a quality 300W PSU at least for the new rig.

Don't get the G4mx400!

Try to get something beyond that. Its just a overclocked Geforce2, and if you must get that I'd immediately reccomend the Radeon 9000pro as it is also supposed to be targeting the same market but the R9p handles the g4mx series quite easily.

Also, I'd reccomend switching to the Epox 8k5a2+ mobo

Yea, you'll definitely need a new PSU if your old one isn't up to the job, and you should also seriously consider sacrificing a bit of CPU speed to get a GF4 Ti4200 or Radeon 9500 (if you feel like waiting a bit).

I agree on the video card. Also, if you need to shave some money, get a 40x burner instead of the 48x, not much of a difference really. Difference would be <30 seconds.

OK, Looks like I'll trash the g4 for something like the gf4 ti4200. Not a whole lot of cash saved on switching to a 1700xp from a 2000xp or changing to a 40x . Looks like a new psu is in order. What do you think, just a new psu or psu/case. Any suggestions there? Hey magomago, why the epox over the msi board? THANKS AGIAN FOR ALL THE IMPUT!!
