i had to reformat my computer. i deleted all the partitions and now i need to create a new one... what size should i make it...?

how big is your hard drive?

Create a D: drive of 4GB for backups and use the rest of the drive for C:
If you'll have lots of media, use a 2nd drive for that.
Forget chopping up a single drive into many partitions. :laugh:

It may be better to choose a different ltter other than D:, as that is the default for many cdrom drives.

Assign optical drives a letter way back. That way they never change when using media card readers, etc.

IMO, I always at least chop the hdd into two partitions. One for the OS and programs and the other one for data, i.e pics, music, files, etc. In this case, if you have to reformat you do not end up re-installing or re-copying your data from back ups. Back up is still required but at least in this way the only way to lose your data is if a hdd fails totally. And I can guarantee you with all the viruses, worms and spywares on the net, you will sooner or later reformat just to clean slate windows.
