Partitions: XP Dual Install for Dual PCs

I'm in the process of building a new PC, but my new WD Raptor needs to be RMA'ed since my Asus A8V BIOS won't recognize it. (Note, I have seen, read and tested all the articles on VIA/Promise SATA RAID drivers.) Meanwhile, I have the computer I'm on now, an old Athlon with an 80 GB 7400RPM HDD running XP Pro.

As it stands right now, I have a perfectly good, brand new PC next to me, sans a working HDD. I would like to partition my drive, so as to install a clean Windows XP Home version for my new PC. I'd like to be able to move my HDD between my current old Athlon and my new 3200+ (939). I need my current 7400RPM HDD to remain viable on my older PC.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Or, does anyone know of any websites where I can figure out how to make this work?

OK, you're getting a new hard drive for the new computer, and you want the old drive, currently, in your old computer, to remain viable on your older computer. Exactly, what to you want to accomplish by temporarily moving the old hard drive over to the new computer? Do you mean you want to install it and boot from it, while your waiting on the new hard drive? Do you mean you want to transfer data files from it to the new computer? What?

If you mean you want to install it and boot from it, I'd say that's a bad idea. It won't have the proper drivers to run in the new system. If you start tampering with it, it's going to be messed up when you move it back to the older computer.

But, if you want to simply install it as a slave drive in the new computer and copy files to the new drive, no problem.

I would like to be able to check up on and start playing around with my new PC. Right now, it is totally useless since I have no HDD, and I would rather not wait the few weeks or however long it takes for my RMA to go through.

I know that I cannot boot my new PC with my current hard drive. Hence, I would like to partition the drive, and install Windows XP on a new, clean partition, so that my new computer CAN boot up from it. Thus, I need two partions:

C: Windows XP for my old 800MHz Athlon PC, plus music, games and video.

D: Windows XP for my new Athlon 64 3200+ PC only.

This way, partitions C and D can be used to boot my older and newer PCs respectively. That make sense?
