partitions in windows or dos?

Phokus

Hi,

Are there any partition utilities in windows or dos? I have to partition a computer's HD, but it's not connected to the 'net so i can't download a demo of partition magic... or does anyone know of a partition program that i can download that fits on a floppy disk? Thanks!

If you're trying to set up partitions on a new hard drive (just setting them up, not moving/changing them) then you can use FDISK, which is a part of the standard DOS utilities, available in any version of DOS, or on most Windows 9x boot/recovery disks...

W2k's disk management tool have partitioning capability. Well if you are planning to use W2k that is ^^

Linux FDISK is my favorite partitioning tool. You can use it from an installation cd. Of course, you will not install Linux, but you can proceed the installation until the partitioning section and after this, reboot.

I too like partitioning with linux. Definitely more powerful and doesn't limit you to the few partitions dos fdisk does.

Partition magic's downloadable demo is a non functioning demo.. it doesn't do anything.. I started to download it one day, and then I read the fine print. I guess once you've partitioned you don't need to buy the program anymore.. in most cases I guess.. I use fdisk.. but it limits you to one primary partition (at least in my exprerience, someone correct me if I'm wrong).
