i've partitioned my 60gb into 2 partition. 25gb for winxp, games, apps, and the other partition (35gb) for downloads, and backup purposes. incase, i have to reformat i can just move stuff over.

is 25gb enough for winxp, games and apps. or should i increase it?

Call it a preference or not, but I'd suggest not partitioning the drive unless you want to run more than one OS.. If you need to make "data" or "download" area, simply use a folder to "seperate" stuff..

i like partioning as i can format my O/S drive without having to backup my mp3s, vids, etc. i do 4 partitions:
O/S
Programs (acdsee, smartftp, winzip, you get the idea)
Games
Media

now the reason i responded to this thread. how much space does XP pro need? i gave win98se 4gig, and that was way too much, should have done 2.5 gig. any suggestions on XP pro? how much more bloatware crap is included over 98?

hmm, interesting opinions.

so now i'm thinking, maybe i should install xp on my other 40gb, merge the 2 partition on my 60gb and use the 60gb hd for backup :) or i should just leave the 2 partitions alone. heh :)

Let me get this straight.. Are you saying you have a 40Gb =and= a 60Gb hard drive..? I didn't get this impression from your original post..

With two HDD's you're better off using one for the OS and other programs while the other for pure storage. Storate could be back up of the other HDD and also downloads and personal files. This is probably the best set up. Partitioning a HDD is not a bad idea but it's less safer when using hdd. Even with partitions, when the hdd dies, everything is down the drain. With two hdd there's almost zero chance both hdd will die at the same time.
