Partitioning/Formatting problems

I've been having to use Western Digital Life Guard 10.0 to format my WD 120GB hard drive lately and that is a full version behind the current. And even then I have to install Windows 98 2nd Edition first off the start up disc because with my Windows XP Pro it's not letting me delete my current partition or even create new partitions.

I knows it's really ridiculous to ask but is it because I may not have a full edition of Windows XP Pro?

I have also tried to go into Disk Management and it won't even let me create a new partition or format the current partition even running the Admin account. So not sure what the problem is there, anyone know?

So I've tried both of those ways and neither seem to want to work for me, if anyone can give me some pointers I would appreciate it, otherwise I'm left with doing it the lengthy way.

.

So is your version an upgrade? It does not sound like it but just checking.

I didn't think it was. I mean it lets me upgrade which it recommends but also lets me do a new installation. I assumed any copy did this, but it would seem that I have a full version.

My friend let me borrow his copy, I'm thinking maybe I should just go buy a copy. If it is an upgrade could this be what is preventing XP from deleting and creating partitions?

Do you get the screen which asks to press F8 to continue and then another screen which asks if you want to do a "repair install" or a "new install"? Make sure you are doing the new install. If you are attempting a repair install it just installs into the drive without formatting.
