partitioning for OS

i have a 120 GB seagate SATA HDD, and i want to put WinXP Pro on it. Would I get more efficiency/better boot times by putting the OS, and programs i have running all the times like AV and firewall on a 5 GB or 10 GB partition (not sure what size this should be) and putting everything else such as games on the rest?

Im sure i'm right in saying no you wont. When i first built my PC i wondered whether it was worth doing and didnt because i read somewhere it wouldnt make any difference.

Ya you will not really notice a performance increase. I ussually set up a different partision for storage though and the first partision is just OS, apps, games etc. You will notice a performance gain if you have a second hdd and put the pagefile on it

No you will not

thanks all, i just though that if the OS and support programs were on a separate partition the boot would take less time because it's a smaller partition. Would it be different if i had 2 harddrives and i had OS + support on one and games on the other?

Nope. The only reason to do this (and this is why I do it) is because when you come to reinstall if necessary, then you don't lose any data. Something hoses your C: drive? No problem, just reinstall and there's all your crap, right where you left it.
