Partition Tragic

I have just installed an IBM deskstar 75GXP (30.7Gb) but only selected a partition to fill the whole drive (I know....I can hear the fits of laughter due to the shear stupidity). Now in Windows 98 drivespace tells me I only have 2Gb.

What can I do to solve this. I was wondering if Partition Magic would sort it.

Thanks for any help.

is the drive being used? if not, just fdisk the sucker then format it (just to make sure) and reinstall it, after that have partition magic set up some nice partitions on that drive.

I am not sure whether I used FAT16 or FAT32. How can I tell?

Also I have got stuff on the drive and so can't reformat it easily.

if you saved stuff on it, more than likely it is fat32, regardless back up all your stuff, then reformat the sucker unless you want to enjoy your 30 giger with its 2 gig capacity.

Open Windows Explorer, right-click on the drive's icon and select "Properties".Next to "Type" you will see if it is Fat32 or simple Fat.

it is very likely that you have it set to FAT16, otherwise you shouldn't have a problem.

If I do reformat it how do I make sure that it is reformatted with FAT32 and not 16.

Could the problem have arisen due to the fact that I used old DOS setup disks with FDISK on them?

Where can I get the latest version of FDISK?

Under the Add/Remove program settings area is the option to make a windows recovery disk. Boot that disk and use that fdisk and format to set up your Deskstar.
