More than a year ago, I seem to remember using something to set up maybe 2 or 3 partitions on the hard drive for the system I built for my kids to use, primarily as a game pc. Right now it has Windows XP and a bunch of games installed on it.

My original idea was to install some flavor of Linux on one of the partitions, and perhaps eventually a newer version of Windows on the other.

It has been so long at this point that I forget what program I used to create, much less view the different partitions.

Can anyone recommend a program to view, create and delete partitions on a modern hard drive? (prefer a free utility)

Thanks for any help!

-Parted Magic (Linux-based)
-Mini-Tool Partition Wizard (Windows-based)

Both work fine for me. I usually boot Partition Magic from a flash drive and use their partition tool.

Disk Management in Windows can do basic view/delete/create. For anything else check out the free versions of Mini Partition Tool or aoemi as mentioned above.

BackUp your OS and partitions using DOS Ghost to various 32GB Fat 32 Partitions on a separate HDD then boot a Win7 SetUp Image and use DiskPart to prepare your SSD's or HDD's any way you want then dump your Ghost images over them.

Use a WinME boot on Floppy, Optic or USB Thumb to access Dos Ghost images.

DO NOT Trust any Partition App that claims to Automatically change your OS Partition Volume with the OS installed.

Where applicable I'll still use FDisk and DelPart.EXE to bust partitons.

Use DOS Ghost to BackUp and prepare your Media Disks Manually using DiskPart. Don't forget to use the OffSet Switch when aligning every partition on SSD's with DiskPart.

MSG to the OP from a Canadian:

The RCMP took our $600 CV858 away ;o(
But we can legally buy a $3000 Tavor (5 rounds capped of course).

We still have the SKS45 limited to 5 rounds, for $200 (Which we can't Bullpup) - Can't say how long that's going to last under these stupid Gun Laws - Next thing they will want is our Lee Enfields. Yet we can buy German 308 HK SCAR's for an in-surmountable amount of money (Again limited to Semi-Auto and 5 rounds).

Arms is all about money and subservient population control - NOT Lives or FREEDOM when it comes to Monopoly, Greed and Power through Politics and Firearms.

Personally I like the 762x39 round for hunting Deer (Providing I could even kill such a beautiful animal) - Sure puts the Winchester 30-30 at bay, considering the 30-30 attacked the Canadian Parliament resonantly with a crazy.

Look at Arsenal and Centry Arms AK production US Kits and ARMS US Laws regarding RECEIVERS really.

I apologize to AnandTech for this Gun Rant - But his Nick is demanding.

If you don't need full 3D performance and are just looking to try out other operating systems just run them in VMs and you won't have to (re-)partition.
