Partition question

Hi, I'm installing Ubuntu for school, but am setting up a dual boot system. I will likely be using Ubuntu fo programming projects ( I can't imagine these totaling 200 MB, but who knows?). I have a 70GB (yes it's small) HDD with about 35 Gb left When the Ubuntu installer asks about partition and you can use the slider to set the size of each partition, does the partition percentage pertain to the amount of HD space on the drive devoted to Windows programs, and the rest to those run under Ubuntu? I intend to continue using Windows for most everything (gaming, web browsing, etc), how much space should I reserve for the Ubuntu partition?

Would there be any difference if I instead installed Ubuntu via Wubi?

Just use the manual partitioner in the Ubuntu installer to resize the appropriate partitions.

When I ran Ubuntu as my primary OS with XP as a "when needed", I set it up as follows:
100GB:
-11GB Ubuntu root (/)
-18GB XP Pro
-2GB swap (but this was the last partition)
-Remaining: Data and /home. Formatted in ext3.

You could easily get away with only setting aside 8-10GB for Ubuntu's root directory and just leave the home directory on the same partition for space saving.

I think the minimum is 4, but 8-10 will give you room to save larger files if need be.

Thanks for the input. My CD drive seemingly can't stop making coasters so I have been through 3 failed installations. I finally said to hell with it and installed through Wubi.

It was weird, my computer seemed to make coasters when I tried to make Ubuntu bootable CDs and once an nlite CD. But I think the problem was more my CD drive being retarded - if I ejected the CD once or twice and had my computer re-read it, it would suddenly show up as the properly burned CD. Of course, I figured this out after wasting 5 or so blank CDs... :|

I'll post my generic "dual boots are always a risk, including the wubi system, and it is highly recommended you use another method such as extra HD's".
