Yes, I think you can get it back to normal. I've done it too many times. It is a little time consuming. I assume you are using Windows Xp. You will need to put the Windows CD in the CD-Rom, then boot up to the Recovery Console. Once you?re at the DOS prompt, type in FIXBOOT, then press enter. Next type in FIXMBR, then press enter. Now for the time consuming part; type in CHKDSK /R , let it do it's thing. If appears to freeze up for a substantial amount of time (30 minutes), reboot to the Recovery Console again, and type in CHKDSK /R. I've had it freeze up to three times in a row before it actually fixed everything. It can be quite an amazing site sometimes, seeing all the stuff that it actually fixes. Once it runs through, it?s likely that it will boot up.
Before doing any Partition Magic where the system reboots to DOS to perform the operations, you should always run CHKDSK /R (Start>Run> CHKDSK /R then follow the on-screen instructions) or right click on the drive in My Computer, click on Properties>Tools>Error Checking>Check Now. Put a check in both boxes, click Start.
Chkdsk /r and defragmenting should be performed on a regular basis as part of you hard drive maintenance. It is also recommended that hard drives be reformatted yearly as part of your maintenance plan.
I never used the Rescue Disks because I don't have an A: The CHKDSK /R can take a few hours to complete when fixing the partition crash. Good luck.
