I've got a dell dimension pc. I installed partition magic 8.0 and was unable to successfully partition my HD. The next time I restarted my pc after it goes through the windows xp loading page. I get the following message:

PartitionMagic (xmnt2002.exe)
PartitionMagic is unable to read the batch file.
Verify that the System32 directory is not compressed or corrupt.

I've found a few solutions online, but they all require being in windows? I can't get it to boot in safe mode to try the suggestions.

Any ideas? If i use the system restore on the dell pc, do I loose all my saved data?

Why not try using the PartitionMagic boot disk?
