Partition Magic 8 question

I just installed a new hard drive for applications. I used PM 8 to create the partition, format, etc. Will the "copy partition" command work just as well as using the disk copy program to copy the contents from one drive to the other? The old drive is applications only as well.

Will an 8mb cache work better for a drive with applications only or would one be able to notice a difference?
