running xp, during a resize of two partitions, it just froze. =/
was done resizing the first partition and it froze while moving data and resizing the second.

rebooted, now i have 1 partition that doesn't show up in windows.

in partition magic, all other partitions are fine and show up as ntfs, while the screwed up partition shows up as PqRP.

searched thru their help file and this is the only thing i found on it.

"PqRP Partitions

If your computer fails during a PartitionMagic operation, you may see a partition that displays as PqRP or PQFLEX in the partition list in the main screen. PartitionMagic flags a partition with a PqRP file system and a PQFLEX label, so you know that the partition has been modified. You should assume that a PqRP partition is not stable. Contact PowerQuest technical support for help in recovering data from a PqRP partition.

any idea how to restore it? or do i have to call their incompetent tech support? heh.
well, that'll be my last resort if you guys can't think of anything. :)

thanks for any help,
dc

A PQRP (PowerQuest Recoverable Partition Indicator) file system is usually caused by a system crash (power outage or surge, reboot, violence to the cpu) during a resize or move. PartitionMagic will change the file system flag while it is moving data and doesn't get a chance to change it back under these extreme circumstances. In some cases, depending on when the operation was interrupted, the data has become corrupt; and is not recoverable.

To solve the problem with PTEDIT:
Execute PTEDIT
Locate the PQRP. The type value of which will be 3C. (If the PQRP occurred on a logical partition, click on GoToEPBR to locate the correct partition.)
Click in the type field where the 3C is located.
Click on the Set Type button.
A list of available partition types will be displayed. Select the appropriate partition type. (FAT32 if it was FAT32 before etc.)
Save the changes and exit.

If the system does not boot properly at this point, run a directory of the drive and make sure that it does not have one entry denoted as DYN_ROOT. This simply indicates that the original root directory as been relocated and in most cases can be restored. If the directory appears as ASCII or unrecognized characters the partition is likely corrupt and cannot be recovered.

Why do you partition your drive/s to begin with??

L337 people use fdisk! (edit/ if splitting your drive is necessary, often it isn't)

Partition Magic has more functions than it can handle... known fact.

Hope you retrive your data though.

i can't even run partition magic 7 on my winxp system :(

the start up screen comes on and freezes the system.

but then again i've been having all sorts of problems with partition magic, even with v 6 when it would crash in the middle of an operation for no reason.

i think theres another partition manager that i've found to be better, and will usually fix pm mess ups. i think its called ranish partition manager and i think theres a demo available.
